This is a self-supported bicycle adventure, and you need to prepare for it yourself. You won’t receive any support from the organizer for your preparation, logistics, or during the race. The organizer is only responsible for this website and tracking.
The Alaska-Divide takes you on one of the most remote routes you can still explore on this planet. The 480-mile (770 km) long Dalton Highway, the final stretch from Anchorage to Deadhorse, is also known as “the most dangerous highway in North America.” This isn’t due to traffic, as it’s almost nonexistent. On this stretch from Fairbanks to Deadhorse, you’ll find only 2 places with rooms where you can stay. Be aware that on many long stretches, there is no mobile connection, and you won’t be able to call for help. You may encounter cars and trucks on the route, but not as many as you might expect. It’s possible to see wild animals like Caribou, moose, brown bears (grizzlies), or black bears. Wolves and foxes are also part of Alaska’s wildlife. You may experience a wide range of weather conditions, from 28 degrees Celsius to freezing temperatures, and snow in the north may be possible. Prepare yourself and acquire the necessary knowledge before the start of this amazing adventure.
In the past editions, every rider had their own strategy. Some camped outside every night, while others stayed in a room a few times.
The Dalton Highway has become quite popular among cyclists. About 30 riders were counted in the summer of 2022, and as of August 2023.
