Waiting for the bikes

Stuck in Anchorage. Bikes are missing. 4 Bike boxes on the same flight did not arrived in Anchorage and no information where they are. The system say: “We are searching for your luggage”. Exploring Anchorage by bike, checking the start section out of Anchorage by bike was the plan. Missing all the gear, bicycles, sleeping bag, tent… using a car instead of our bikes.

Fingers crossed the bike boxes will show up here today that we can start in 24 hours.

Registration is closing soon

The registration for the Alaska-Divide is closing soon on the 1st of August.

The start of the second edition is on Sunday, the 13th of August. As of today, 10 riders have registered for this second edition. The route is the same as last year, with the finish line at Deadhorse, Prudhoe Bay. It may be the most remote, self-supported bikepacking event you can participate in.

Distance and vertical climbing updated

The route distance and vertical climbing are now updated on the webiste:

Length: 1700 kilometers (1056 miles)
Elevation Gain: about 17,700 meters (58,070 feet)

The elevation is now related what the Garmin messured riding the whole route last year.

The Dalton Highway is the last stretch on the Alaska-Divide route. The Dalton Highway is rated as the most dangerous road in North America. In “Magical Earth” the Dalton Highway is listed even as the 3rd most dangerous road in the world:

Official results

With Andrew arriving in Deadhorse, the Alaska-Divide is finished. It was a blast to cycle on this route and we will come back. Even though a lot of the route is now paved, it’s still a challenging and remote route. The loneliness and landscapes are awesome.
